Felted Wool at Fryeburg Fair

My booth from where I sit at the fair.
Lots of stuff and this is only half of what I have out!
Here we are again with another fun fair season behind us. Whew! that week at Fryeburg Fair seems a lot longer than it is but man is it fun. I have included a few photos of my booth and details of some of my work. It was a very successful week and many wonderful people stopped by to say hi and laugh with me. I love you all, thanks for such a fun week!

When the cat is away, the mouse will play, but when the cat is in the mouse will dance with her. All my hairy fairies get along so well. Just one big happy, hairy family.

Finger puppets were one of the really big sellers this year. Maybe because they are so cute and cuddly. The ghosts were a huge hit as were the little sunflower girls.

Even Creetchure was there this year. He went to live with a lovely lady who really needed a house elf. I hope they will be happy together.

The wool felted masks were a big hit this year with many very positive comments including "I may have to buy a sixth mask from you! They are all so wonderful". All my masks are traveling with me to Bermuda this month, I am teaching a class on how to make the story mask. Yes we really are going, fun fun fun!
My Fryeburg Fiber Tribe!
Here are a few photos from the Fiber Center 2007. We all worked long hours and had loads of fun. I didn't get around to getting everyone into my camera, but here is a sampling of those in attendance.

Right inside the front entrance to the Fiber Center at Fryeburg is Susan's space. She is our Artistic Coordinator and an artist in her own right. Susan does wet felting demos day and night and informs fairgoers about the featured artist. This work is displayed prominently on the front and back upper walls and on the folding display wall at the front of the building. She is a joy to know and talk to. I have been blessed to have the booth right next to her area for 4 years now. You can visit Susan's web site to see more of her work. You can click on the photo below to go there.

Here's Karen, one of the nicest women in the world I am convinced. She has the sweetest disposition and some of the prettiest hats around. Karen is quiet but when she speaks you are hearing wisdom. It is always nice to spend time with her. Check out her hats in the picture below. She usually sells out of hats before the week is done so if you see anything you like you had better get it right then cuz it will be gonzo soon.

Bert McLellean is the pumpkin lady at Fryeburg. She must make 100 pumpkins for the show. She is a sweetheart and one of the Bermuda 7. Bert not only spins, dyes, knits, weaves and needle felts, she raises her own sheep and is also a master basket maker. Her baskets are wonderful and she is skilled teacher, very patient with her students. We all love Bert.

Here is our wonderful friend Betsy. She has one of the most original booths at the fair. See below...

Betsy also has a large display of her hand spun yarns with her each year. All of her fleece comes from her own sheep, she washes, dyes, spins and we all enjoy!

Here is Gale, she has beautiful alpaca and llama products and one of the most beautiful smiles around. Gale is quiet and efficient, very dependable and a good friend. Gale is the reason we got to go to Bermuda to teach in December of 2007. She and her handsome husband have moved there and Gale got right busy and introduced fiber arts to the island. Thanks Gale, you rock.

At the Fryeburg Fiber Center we are blessed with many lovely people who enjoy sharing their craft with others. Bot women and men come to help educate the fairgoers on the many diverse uses of fibers that are grown in Maine. Thank you all for sharing your love for your craft with all who care to stop and watch.

This is Janet Conner. Janet is one of the most positive people I have every known. She is a breath of fresh air in this stale old world. When you enter her booth you will be stunned by the beauty of her work, and she will encourage you to try your hand at rug hooking. Janet is the consumate teacher and a very capable artist also. So if you are in the market for a beautiful heirloom hooked rug, Janet is the lady to see. If you want to make your own heirloom rug, Janet has loads of kits, patterns and supplies to get you started and keep you going. She also repairs antique hooked rugs and can do an apraisal on an antique hooked rug. You won't find anyone more knowledgable about the subject than this pretty lady. Did I mention she is nice too?
