How to do Wool Felting, Needle Felting, Silk Painting Workshops

2008 Workshop Schedule

(Or What the Heck is She Up to?)

Wool felting and silk painting, wool and silk, my mantras. As a matter of fact I plan to lead several "How to" Wool Felting, Needle Felting, Silk Painting Workshops this year. I make all sorts of stuff from traditional wool felting & needle felting, fantasy creatures, fairies, mermaids, unicorns and even Santa Clause have been seen hanging out in my studio. Beautiful hand painted silk scarves adorn my shelves, lampshades and windows, sometimes I even wear one! I love to teach others how to do wool felting, needle felting, silk painting, and lead workshops making said fairies, mermaids, unicorns, dogs, masks, etc.

So here is a schedule of the classes I am planning on teaching this year along with a show or two. I plan to add more as they come along so check back often if you have a desire to learn how to work with lovely, warm, soft aromatic wool and slinky, soft, sensuous silk scarves.

Pleasant Mountain Fiber Arts Summer Workshop

This year's workshop weekend was a great success! Be sure to check out the web site early next year for 2009's offerings!

Baksets with Bert woven rattan basket

This is the basket I made in Bert's beginer basket making workshop, it is a Berry Basket which was one of two choices for us newbies to make. All participants were successful and went home with beautiful baskets. I carried my lunch the next day in my lovely basket. (Sigh)

This year's workshops were wonderful and fully attended. Unfortunately we were turning some ladies away because we were just plain full! We spun, felted, needled, hooked, twisted wire and manupulated fibers to our hearts content. Well, almost anyway.
A huge thank you to Linda Whiting for making it all come together, YOU ROCK LINDA!
I can't wait to see what will be offered next year. I know Linda is working on having a slide show on the web site, so give her a couple of days to catch her breath and go on over and see what all the fuss was about and maybe you will be one of the lucky ones to be able to join us next year.
Just remember this is a really popular bunch of classes and they fill right up to capacity so register early in order to avoid disapointment. Hope to see you there!

Another Wonderful Summer Workshop Behind Us!

Silk Painting is my Bag, Baby!

400 Saco Rd., Standish, Maine---July 18 & 19, 2008

Thank You! Karen Smith and all the other ladies who worked so hard to make this workshop a success. The students were fantastic and eager to learn, the instructors were top notch and happy to share their wealth of knowledge with others and lunch was particularly yummy, again. It was nice to see everyone again and to meet so many new ladies. We had a whopper of a lightening storm in the area and Karen's electricity was out on Saturday but they got a generator up and running and everything ran smoothly. I look forward to next year and hope you all have a safe and healthy summer, fall, winter and spring.

So go to the Saco Valley Fiber Artists web site and check it out. All the information will be on the web site for 2009 sometime in the spring so go on over and make your plans to be there, or be square!

Watercolor Felting at Down Home and Company

needle felted wool

This was a really fun workshop and was filled to capacity!

This was a great workshop, everyone created such beautiful pieces. I hope we can do this one again soon. The flat felting was a bit less intimidating for everyone and even the ladies who had never seen a felting needle were successful. And Rindy was gracious, as always.

Rindy's place is located on Main Street in Bridgeton right across from Reny's. Her storefront is a beautiful Krishna blue. She has such beautiful yarns, fibers, spinning wheels and tools you might want to count on spending a little extra time in her shop looking around and planning your next project. Rindy is an accomplished fiber artist with vast training and ability, if you are in the middle of a project and are stumped Rindy can lend an expert hand. She also has a full roster of diverse fiber classes to choose from on her web site so check it out at:

Wooly Woofs at Down Home & Company! NOW Fuzzy Felines TOO!

Wooly Woofs Saturday, November 1, 10:30am-3:30pm

Fuzzy Felines Saturday November 15. 10:30am to 3:30pm

Rindy has asked me to teach a dog workshop at her shop again and we have decided to plan it for the early winter, November 1 which is a Saturday. I'm going to do a CAT workshop on November 15th too so give her a call, run by, drop a telegram...whatever you need to do to sign up. I will have books with pictures for inspiration or you can bring photos of your own fuzzy friend to immortalize. We work right through lunch sometimes because we forget to eat! So bring your lunch and lets have some fun! Just remember, if you snooze you lose, these workshops are VERY popular with spaces limited to 8 students.

Down Home & Company

Besides having great yarn, fibers and tools, Down Home and Company carries work from many Maine artists of the highest quality I have seen. Not just knitted work, though that is outstanding, but Rindy has woven, felted, and crocheted pieces perfect for rewarding yourself or to please anyone on your gift list, she also has some beautiful silver shawl clasps. Go look at her stock, you know you wanna!

needle felted wool dog Jax

This is Jax, a beautiful example of one of my student's work. This lovely boy was needle felted by my friend Sue, of Camp Micah fame. She sent me this picture of her work and the original boy who inspired her. Great work Sue!

Feltie Sheltie this precious pup was done by one of my students in the Wool Woof Workshop at Down Home and Company in August, she has a living counterpart to this little cutie at home named Otter! I love it! So you see, you can do this, it is fun and you will amaize yourself. These make the BEST gifts too! Hmmmm...

One of the nicest surprises at Down Home and Company is the work by Susan Mills.

She is a felter extraordinaire and a mixed media artist. She does set design, photography for published books, I'm not sure if there is anything she cannot do...you can see her stuff for yourself at:

Big Daddy Event of the Year!

September 28 to October 5, 2008

Yessah, THE BIG ONE! Ayuh!

The Fiber Center at

Fryeburg Fair

We don't have workshops per se at the Fryeburg Fiber Center during the Fair, but all week long, the dedicated women and men of many different fiber, spinning, weaving and craft groups demonstrate "how to" from 9am to 9pm every day that the gates are open. OK so we close at 6pm on the last Sunday, but we are at it overtime the other days. Come rain or shine you can find us hard at play showing and explaining how to do our craft/art to anyone who will listen. It is a tiring week but also very fun and fullfilling. Many folks come by every year and it is the only time we ever see each other. Yes there is such a thing as a Fair Friend. I have many I am proud to know. So if you have a spare hour or two or even a whole day, come on over and watch us spin wool, do wool felting, card fiber, and don't forget the fleece show and judging competition at the great Fryeburg Fair, Miane's Blue Ribbon Classic, the first week of October, we'll be there with the lights on, Ayuh.

As it so happens I will be the featured artist this year at the Fiber Center at Fryeburg Fair. I am very nervous about it and working hard to get lots of work done. Also I'm trying to work much bigger as I usually work on little stuff. My friend Cathy in Bermuda calls it "heroic" work. I like the way that sounds. Anyway, I will keep you posted on how things are going as I know. YIKES! lots of work to do, don't ya know!

Janet at Shelly Bay Beach, Bermuda

Here is my BFF Janet at Shelly Bay Beach, we walked over there on the Rail Road trail. The roads are hazardous to walk along as there are NO shoulders, at all! No sidewalks either. But the Rail Road trail was wonderful and very beautiful as it was right along the water.

We're back! It was a great trip! Bermuda is wonderful and beautiful! BUT the thing that I will always remember the most is the people! The nicest, most polite, kindest and most giving folks I have ever met. Ever. EVERYONE was so pleased that we had made the trip to teach children and adults alike. It made quite a stir on that little island. I have to say a special thank you to Carolyn for giving us the use of her lovely home, thank you so very much. She also loaned us her doggie for the week (some call it dog sitting but Tucker is such a treat to be with it was really our pleasure) so we weren't as dog sick for our own lonely poochies back home. We were picked up and dropped off and fed and housed to our hearts delight. So many people with such sweet attitudes all very giving and loving. I will always remember what a joy the people of Bermuda are. Thank you all for making our trip so splendid! Now we have to go back just to visit so we can keep our friendships alive. Also, I am building a Bermuda page so keep an eye out for that. No worries!
